Fatherhood, Music and History
I know it has been a very long time since my last blog, but the first few months of ‘08 have been hectic to say the least. For starters, my wife and I had our first child back in September, and while it’s the absolute greatest thing in the world, I have been struggling to adjust to the lack of sleep that goes with being a new parent. I’ve been shuffling around like a zombie, but instead of brains, I’m craving sleep.
On top of that, I actually started another branch of PeopleTree. I’ll explain it in greater detail in another post, but it has to do with live music.
So now that the baby is sleeping better, and the weather is heating up, I thought it would be a good time to start blogging again. And it’s a good thing too, because tomorrow is a historic day for Columbia, as GGP unveils its master plan draft.
I’ll be there. I can’t wait to see what they have come up with. If it is anything like what we got a glimpse of from wordbones back in November, I think Rouse would be proud.
Also, GGP should be commended for their continued community outreach. They have engaged the community every step of the way, despite a vocal minority opposed to change of any kind taking place in Town Center. They have assembled a world class team of architects, planners, and environmental restoration experts for the draft plan. In my opinion, this master plan draft is an opportunity for us to come together and work toward making our hometown a national model for walkability, sustainability, and connectivity.
I will report back as soon as I can about how the presentation goes….

Congrats on your new baby! How wonderful for you and your wife. I hope your child can grow up in Columbia, as you have yourself.
Even more, I hope Columbia will grow into (develop, there’s that word) into a community worthy of its origins.

Happy to see Columbia heading in the right direction!
With a little sprucing up, Columbia should evolve into a great 21st century American city.
I particularly like plans for Merriweather plans and the small city institute. Personally, I’d like to see a small theater in the same mold of Centerstage in Baltimore.
